Humorous musing about getting old art prints by Kansas artist Ann L. Carter. Each purchase of a canvas or paper art print supports this independent artist.
Ann L. Carter lives on a small acreage near Manhattan, Kansas, where she works as an artist and writer. Since 1987 her work has been accepted in over 20 regional and national juried shows and two permanent collections. She was a winner in four Kansas Artists’ Postcard Series and was the commissioned artist for a Salina Smoky Hill River Festival Print. She has also been in numerous solo and group shows in the Midwest.
In her silkscreen series “Slices of Life”, Ann is fascinated by patterns and how they work off one another to add complexity and interest to what we see in real life and in art. “Patterns interest me so much because they are often manmade, a sign of our need to add beauty and interest to everyday life. All persons make choices about the patterns they surround themselves with. I want to use the wallpaper and arrangements on the mantle, the flowers in a garden, and the colors and prints on clothing to show how a person thinks and see the world.”
Ann has been influenced by her time spent abroad and her work with teaching English to international students. Travel has shown her the basic similarities in people all over the world, the human quality that we all possess. Her work often depicts older people, who she believes show so much of their character in their faces and postures. “There is often humor in the characters I portray, but to me they haven’t lost their dignity. Rather, they are simply very human.”
