Barbara Waterman-Peters, earned her BFA at Washburn University, and her MFA at Kansas State University. Her award-winning work is in museum, corporate and private collections, and is represented by galleries in Kansas City, Manhattan, and Topeka. She has participated in over 220 solo and group exhibitions.
Barbara is a founding member of the Collective Art Gallery in Topeka.
In 2007 her ongoing work for the Washburn University Theater was exhibited at the Mulvane Art Museum. In 2003 she was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions to the State of Kansas; in 2005 she designed Governor Kathleen Sebelius’ Christmas card and has been nominated twice for a Governor’s Arts Award.
In 2008 she designed the image for the Sunflower Music Festival. In 2009 she received the Lilla Day Monroe Award from Washburn University Alumni Association. She has been invited twice to the Florence Biennale in Italy, included three times in STUDIO VISIT Magazine, and is a writer for TOPEKA Magazine.
Barbara taught at both Washburn and Kansas State. She has been a juror, curator, and panelist. Active in numerous arts organizations, since early 2009 she has been co-chair of the Arts & Culture Alliance (now called CREATe) under the Quality of Life Foundation of Heartland Visioning. She served on the Board of Directors of the North Topeka Arts District (NOTO) until October of 2010. She is the first artist to open a studio in the new North Topeka Arts District under the auspices of NOTO.
